Holy Homecoming: Reclaiming Magic in an Age of Illusion - a workshop w/ Lindsay Mack
A new collaborative workshop with tarot legend Lindsay Mack!
If you ran into me in person anytime in the last month and asked me what I was working on I would have half-whispered Do you know Lindsay Mack? The legendary tarot teacher and podcaster? and then I would have told you we are preparing a collaborative workshop together based in a passion that unites both of our work: encouraging people to trust their own intuition in relation to magic.
I’ve been following Lindsay Mack’s powerful work with tarot for many years, and their podcast Tarot for the Wild Soul’s lifespan has paralleled Fair Folk’s. They are both inspiration to me and peer in the wilds of spiritual teaching on the internet. If you don’t know Lindsay’s work yet, and you’re interested in tarot, holy hannah, buckle up. They are doing such good work to re-orient the discourse of tarot from external authority toward vibrant and supported inner strength.
I’m incredibly honoured Lindsay invited me to collaborate in this truly special (and I think, timely) offering.
Holy Homecoming: Reclaiming Magic in an Age of Illusion is a three-hour online workshop to guide you to reconnect with the magic that dwells in the temple of your own being through the modalities of Tarot, visualization, somatic reflection and song.
The way we see magic has been shaped by how our modern mainstream culture understands the human relationship to the material and spiritual world.
In this culture that believes in separation between beings and competition for survival, magic appears to be about control; the wizard of stories waves his wand to win the war, the witch poisons the goblet with secret herbs, the medium commands the dead to speak.
Contrary to this dominating and limited vision of magic, we understand magic to be a natural, responsive unfolding of the grace innate in life. Magic lives in the moments when the deepest connections and intimacies between ourselves and the other beings and forces of this world shine out in ways that dazzle and disrupt our ordinary way of seeing things. Magic is the surprise of presence, the unfathomable “other” making itself available to our senses.
On May 25th, Lindsay and I will create a gentle container for you to deepen into your trust in that magic alongside others.
In Holy Homecoming’s first half, I will contextualize the notion of magic through the lens of traditional cultures of Europe, then invite folks to track and invoke the experience of magic in their bodies and visualize a visit to a natural site of sacred power from pre-Christian tradition. Then I will invite you to join in song as a means of attuning with the magical field.
In the workshop’s second half, Lindsay will dive into what it means to rewild our intuition, to consider that each of us is born with an innate connection to the Divine. They will then speak about several Tarot cards (The High Priestess, Queen of Wands, and The Hierophant) that can serve as allies and anchors to us in our magical, intuitive reclamation.
Students will have ample opportunity for Q&A with us two, and will be able to connect with one another in Breakout Rooms during the call.
This workshop is for you if…
You are instinctively drawn to the field of the mystical and magical, and want to go deeper in owning your magical practice beyond passing trends
You want to experience a greater sense of trust in your intuitive magical capability
You want greater clarity about how your own magical practice resonates with historical approaches
You want to reconnect with fresh, grounded integrity and insight when the world is especially loud, confusing and distracted
You want to remember the life-affirming magic that promotes connection between humankind and nature and leave aside the fantasy of human separation from and control over nature
You long for connection with the ancestors, human and non-human, and the inner strength that comes from a deeper, cyclical view of time
You want to recall the paths to the inner knowing you were born with and which will always be with you
I would be delighted if you would join us at the Holy Homecoming workshop on May 25th. And of course, the workshop will be recorded for anyone who cannot make it live!
Before I go, I’ll share a vision of magic from the perennially insightful Ursula K. LeGuin. I feel these lines give a true account of how ultimately its power cannot be lost, only forgotten:
“It is no secret. All power is one in source and end, I think. Years and distances, stars and candles, water and wind and wizardry, the craft in a man's hand and the wisdom in a tree's root: they all arise together. My name, and yours, and the true name of the sun, or a spring of water, or an unborn child, all are syllables of the great word that is very slowly spoken by the shining of the stars. There is no other power. No other name.”
― Ursula K. Le Guin, A Wizard of Earthsea

Happy birthday to me!! I almost cried when I saw this post because I have loved both your work separately for years and am so excited to see what magic you create together! (And yes, it's my actual birthday so this was the perfect gift to myself 🥰)
I haven't had much contact with tarot, but this sounds fascinating and nourishing. Also, I loved a Wizard of Earthsea as a child and am now having the beautiful (magical, even) experience of reading it aloud with my 11-year-old son. I didn't consciously remember how much the philosophy around magic, balance, and self-knowledge are centered in that series; re-reading it as a middle-aged woman makes me see how it underpins my understanding of the world.
