Announcing Around the Wheel of the Year

Phoebe & Danica’s new picture book!

Today I have some news to share that I am wildly excited about: the brilliant and beloved author and illustrator Phoebe Wahl and I have written a children’s book together about pagan holidays!

It’s called Around the Wheel of the Year: Festivities for Every Season, and it is set to be released in Spring 2026! The pages will be filled with inspiration for your own seasonal celebrations based in the ancient and folkloric customs of northern Europe, which provide the basis for the concept of “the wheel of the year.”

We have been chipping away at this joint project in secret for a few years now, and it feels so exciting to finally be able to share our joy with you. I dare say it’s auspicious that the announcement in Publisher’s Weekly came just before Samhain (Halloween), a holiday featured in the book, which means we get to tell you about it on this very day!

This book is a combination of Phoebe’s lush folklore-inspired illustration and rhyming skill with the large archive of seasonal and pagan lore I’ve passionately amassed while creating my podcast, Fair Folk, over the last eight years. 

When we first imagined Around the Wheel of the Year, we wanted it to include an illustrated poem about the seasons, along with back matter full of factual information for kids (and parents) who want to know more, as we know so many families (including our own) who long for stories and inspiration about nature-based seasonal celebrations to share with their children and communities. Happily our publisher Chronicle Books was just as keen as we were to make that happen!

I wish we could say the book will be available sooner, but believe us, it’s closer than it ever has been; having now weathered the delays of the pandemic, Danica’s inter-continental move, and Phoebe’s first pregnancy — rest assured she is determined to get it finished before her second one ends!
